Monday 24th March - David Hurst’s Squashathon 11am to 5:15pm

Before running the 2007 London Marathon, David made a rash pledge in the club bar (where else!) that he would raise money by playing sponsored squash for a long as it took him to complete the course. He didn't plan it to take over 6 hours to stagger round all 26 ¼ miles!

So, his pledge has come home to roost and from 11.00am Easter Monday 24 March he plans to take on 13 challengers, one after another, for 6 hours 15 minutes - including comfort breaks - ending at 5.15pm.

To make it more interesting, IF YOU BEAT HIM, he will carry out any CHALLENGE you set me as long as it is legal, decent and not immoral. For example, he will kiss your SHOES, play 3 points in his UNDERPANTS, play the next game right handed (he’s actually left handed) etc. Challenges are invited in the shoe box on the bar.

His Charity: he runs with the Wombles of Wimbledon running team raising money for school projects in Africa and Guyana. This year he aims to raise over £2,000 for Makumbi School in the Zimbabwe countryside where he taught, as a volunteer, way back in 1970. And he is aiming to raise £200 of this through the Squashathon Challenge.

Just £10 pays for one child for one term at the school and if you want to contribute online, or to find out more about Makumbi School, please visit his fund raising web site at www.justgiving.com/davidhurst1 Please CHALLENGE (and SPONSOR) him.

The BAR will be open, and 25% of the takings will be donated to his fund.

Thursday 6th March 2008 - Watch a World Class Squash Exhibition

At 7.30pm Jesse Englebrecht, a world ranked squash player and the Club’s coach, will be demonstrating squash – as it should be played!

Come and see his warm-up routines, court drills and trick shots … and watch some club players be humbled on court!

Jesse is ranked in the top 70 in the world, is current Zimbabwe African no.1, won the Plate Competition at the Commonwealth Games, and plays Premier Squash Division 1 for Guildford and Surrey Cup Division 1 for Cannons West Byfleet.
