Club History

This Club was founded in 1954 by Denys and Jane Paterson and Ken Ouin, who organised use of the courts at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Woking.

On the closure of the Wheatsheaf Hotel courts, the Club teams continued to play in the Surrey Cup, under the captaincy of Eric Williams while new premises were planned. The new courts were completed in 1965 through the efforts of Denys Paterson, Chairman of the Club, who subsequently became President, and continued in this office until his death in 1992.

He was assisted by his wife Jane, and by Jim Marley and Peter Lewison, who negotiated grants from the Department of Education and the National Playing Fields Association and loans from Woking Council, and procured the lease of the grounds in Horsell.
